Start of the season for raspberries Sant'Orsola

The 1st raspberries of the Orsola cooperative come from Sicily, from the plain of Acate in the province of Ragusa.

Harvest of raspberries, done manually, has just started in Sicily. The campaign will continue until the middle of the May, the cooperative reaches the production of 100 quintals. The 1st raspberries of Sicilian "Vajolet" variety will be added in the coming weeks to the production of Calabria.

The cooperative Sant'Orsola has 1,037 members, and in 2013 brought to market 5 584.41 tons of berries , strawberries and cherries. Its sales totaled 48.1 million euros. Regarding the exports, Germany remains the first customer (12% of sales) and the cooperative began to export its small fruits to China, Russia and the Middle East.
