Artificial pollination is suspected.
Pollen is now tested before use.
PSA disease is spreading in the country, 61 orchards are affected.
One-third of the infections affects orchards producing green kiwifruit.
The extent of the disease is suspected from artificial pollination. DNA traces of the disease have been found in pollen collected in 2007.
Nearly 1000 of kiwifruit orchards have used this method to supplement the work of bees.
The Department of Agriculture requires prudence and not prohibit pollen imported and stressed that the pollen collected or imported must be tested negative for PSA before use.
