The entry of Russia into the WTO is a decisive step for the country's integration into the global economy.
The World Trade Organization (WTO) has agreed to the accession of Russia, which has been in talks since 1993.
The accession ceremony took place at the 8th Conference of the WTO Ministerial meeting in Geneva and the accession agreement needs to be ratified by the Duma, the Russian Parliament, within 6 months before Russia becomes a full member of WTO.
By this accession Russia has agreed to make significant commitments to open its trade regime and accelerate its integration into the global economy. Trade should increase substantially and some analysts believe it could double within five years.
