In Germany the Federal Ministry of Agriculture has introduced new guidelines for seasonal workers. These regulations apply from June 16 to the end of 2020.
Since the start of the COVID-19 health crisis, regulations had been tightened for seasonal workers in agriculture. In April and May, only 40,000 seasonal workers were allowed to enter Germany under strict conditions. At the end of May, the regulations were extended until June 15. About 39,000 seasonal workers had entered the country.
New regulations came into force on June 16 and will apply until December 31, subject to the progression of the pandemic.
Among the most important points of this new regulation: seasonal workers can enter Germany by air and land; the 14-day quarantine is no longer required; requirement to set up small teams on farms and businesses; data concerning the team and the accommodation of each seasonal worker in order to facilitate traceability in the event of illness.
This new regulation is a relief for the professionals of the sector who envisage with more serenity the next harvests.
