Argentina is the leading global producer and processor of lemons, and the province of Tucuman, which is part of the Argentine Northwest Region (NOA) in conjunction with Salta and Jujuy, concentrates 90% of the total domestic production.
This region has achieved an excellent rating for their crops and opened the borders of the U.S. markets and Japan, known for the high demands placed on the entry of products in their territories. Achieve produce a lemon excellent for fresh consumption and industrialization, requires an environment where moderate humidity will prevail and sustained throughout the year, as well as sufficient sunlight, cool winters and hot summers.
Other producing areas, though minor, are the Mesopotamian region, comprising the provinces of Misiones, Corrientes and Entre Rios, and the Coastal Region, which includes Santa Fe and Buenos Aires.
The predominance in Argentine exports of this fruit, is due not only to the quality of their lands and climates, but also an important logistics infrastructure obtained with the continuous development of river ports in the area of the Parana River, who have long storage capacity and with the most updated technology for loading and unloading of vessels.
Major varieties produced: Eureka, Genoa; Lisbon; Limoneira.
