Tunisia records a deficit for its food trade balance

According to ONAGRI (National Agriculture Observatory) data, the food trade balance situation for the period of the first 5 months of 2021 shows a deficit compared to the previous year.
In a recent newsletter, ONAGRI (National Observatory of Agriculture) indicates that the food trade balance, for the period of the first 5 months of the year 2021, shows a deficit of 688.3 million TND ($244 million). For the same period in 2020 the deficit was 171.6 TND ($60.6 million).
According to ONAGRI, in terms of value, food exports registered a decrease of 8.8% and food imports registered an increase of 12.8%.
The deficit recorded is essentially the result of the increase in the pace of cereal imports (+ 13.9%) on the one hand and the decrease in volume (-47.6%) and in value (-24.8%). ) olive oil exports compared to the same period of the year 2020.
Citrus exports varied in volume (+ 83.5%) and value (+ 75.9%). Tomato exports varied in volume (-4.7%) and in value (+ 11.9%) Date exports varied in volume (+ 4.4%) and value (-9.40%) .
Compared to the same period of 2020, unit prices (kilograms, ..) for export in 2021 varied by + 43.6% for olive oil, by + 17.4% for tomatoes but also -4.1% for citrus fruits and -13.2% for dates.
