This year, Peruvian Hass avocado exports would reach 515,000 tons, which would represent an increase of 6.6% compared to the 483,000 tons shipped in 2021, reported the president of the Association of Hass Avocado Producers of Peru (ProHass), Juan Carlos Paredes Rosales.
He stressed that this season will take place between January and October (in 2021 it was from January to September), however, he specified that due to the supply from the mountains (whose harvest begins in October), Peru produces avocado throughout the year.
Until week 17 (April 24) a growth of 20% of the total projection for the season was already observed, with 4,578 containers shipped (21.5 tons each).
The main market for Peruvian avocado is Europe, which accumulates 70% of total exports. According to Rosales, this year they plan to supply 10-25% more volume of this fruit to the United States, and the Japanese market would grow in volume by up to 30%.
