RPE's Golden Red, a new potato variety will be available in the fall
Potato innovation is the result of years’ work in test fields with the goal of growing better-tasting, better-growing, and better-looking potatoes.
RPE, Inc., onе of the U.S. category leaders and key growers/shippers of year-round potatoes and onions, introduces a new, premium red potato variety to potato consumers this fall.
Golden Red is an exclusive varietal of the company. Compared to common red potatoes, this new gold standard in red potatoes have a bright red skin with a rich yellow interior and a sweet-creamy taste.
Originating in the Netherlands, this potato variety has shown itself to be promising based on its yield, internal and external quality, as well as disease and insect resistance. Alike, the variety has performed well in the growing regions of Canada and the USA. Sensory testing have shown that Golden Red taste better than standard red potato, and also outperforms its commercial counterpart in internal and external appearance.
Research Chef Chris McAdams shared his opinion about Golden Red performance in the kitchen and flavor: “I truly believe this potato was built for potato salad, it’s phenomenal in that application. Once it is cooked, it holds its shape and texture much better than comparable potatoes. When you cut it after boiling it doesn’t break apart or get grainy.”
