With the continued growth of its container business, the Port of Dunkirk has begun work on the extension of the wharf in Flanders. This will allow to accommodate in all maritime conditions the large container ships of the world.
Launched in February 2017, the works of the extension of the wharf of Flanders are still in progress and will continue until the end of 2018. At the end of the works, the wharf of Flanders will present a linear total of 1,800 m, with a pulling 16.5 m of water at all tidal conditions. Allowing simultaneous docking of 2 megamax container ships of new generation.
The port of Dunkirk has experienced a strong and continuous growth of its container business, which rose from 200,000 TEU in 2010 to 375,000 TEU in 2017. It is the leading French port for the importation of Fruits & Vegetables in containers.
