The Vietnamese conglomerate HAGL (Hoang Anh Gia Lai) announced a $42 million investment for growing bananas to export to China.
HAGL already has 13,500 hectares of agricultural land in Vietnam, Laos and Cambodia. Producing bananas, passion fruit, dragon fruits and peppers. The new project in Cambodia covers an additional 5,000 hectares, and investment will reach $42 million.
The bananas produced will be exported to China by boat or by road. So far, HAGL estimates that it has supplied about 240,000 tonnes of bananas out of the 15 million tonnes demanded by the Chinese market each year.
