Taiwan-Japan Agreement on Organic Fruits and Vegetables

The 2 countries have finalized a mutual agreement concerning the import-export of their organic products.

 

 

Taiwan and Japan previously signed a memorandum in October 2019. Now the details are out. This is the mutual agreement between the 2 countries regarding the import-export of their organic food products.

 

 

 

Japanese organic fruits and vegetables that have been certified by the Japanese Agricultural Standard (JAS) can be sold as organic food imported to Taiwan. The same applies to products certified in accordance with the procedures for Taiwanese organic agricultural products which may be sold as organic food imported into Japan.

 

 

 

This agreement could increase the consumption of organic food in Taiwan. The country indeed, according to data published in 2018 by Taiwan Business, recorded only a growth of 5% in the consumption of organic food. This rate considered low, compared to other countries, is explained by strict regulations imposed on the import of food and agricultural products.
