Asparagus Season in Germany Started Earlier Than Usually
Germany

German farmers are afraid of their crops since asparagus harvest season started in Lower Saxony three weeks earlier due to mild weather. Apart from this, many Polish labourers resigned to coming to Germany to earn in the Saxon fields.
Many German farmers fear to leave a part of their crops not collected in the fields. Heinrich Thiermann, farmer from Kirchdorf sees the main reason of this Polish manpower shortage in earlier Poland accession to the European Community. Polish labourers prefer going to Scandinavian countries or Ireland where they can earn much more than working in German fields. Moreover, more and more competitive become asparagus markets in Greece and Spain where also experienced manpower is not so expensive as in Germany.
