HCD (Horticultural Crops Directorate) and AFA (Agricultural Food Authority) closed the avocado season in November 2023 and suspended exports.
The local media has announced that the suspension of exports will be lifted on 1 March 2024.
This decision follows field surveys carried out by the AFA to assess the ripeness and volume of fruit in the country's main production areas.
In Kenya, temporary export bans are one of the main ways of avoiding a crop of immature avocados and thus maintaining Kenya's good reputation on international markets. During the suspension period, only small quantities of avocados were allowed to be exported by air.
