Vietnam and China take steps to ease durian and lychee trade
VU
Officials agreed to fast-track customs procedures and remove export obstacles ahead of the 2025 lychee season.
Vietnamese officials met with China's General Administration of Customs (GACC) in late May to resolve trade bottlenecks affecting agricultural exports, with a focus on durian shipments and preparations for the 2025 lychee season.
Both sides agreed to intensify bilateral cooperation. Short-term measures include clearing delays in durian exports and ensuring smoother customs clearance for fresh lychees during peak harvest.
Vietnam and China also plan to accelerate technical negotiations for broader market access, including protocols for pomelo and lime. A Chinese inspection team will visit Vietnam to assess fruit production sites.
A new ministerial-level dialogue mechanism will be launched to regularly address trade-related issues. Both countries agreed to establish a "green channel" at border checkpoints to fast-track the clearance of fresh fruit during high-volume periods. Additional steps include extending customs working hours, including weekends, to handle increased seasonal export volumes.
