Chile has regained its leadership in grape exports, according to a Chilean media. In the 2023-2024 season, Chile exported more than 64 million boxes of fresh grapes (528,795 tonnes), generating revenues of more than $1 billion. This represents an increase of 7% in volume and 13% in value compared to the previous season.
Experts highlight the improvement in quality and the growth in the production and export of new varieties of table grapes, reaching 39 million boxes. This strategy has improved Chile's competitiveness, especially in the US market, benefiting from the low supply from California and Peru due to adverse weather conditions.
The 2023-2024 season has seen an overall increase of 6% in table grape shipments from the southern hemisphere, Mexico and India, reaching 2.2 million tonnes. Chile leads with a 24% share, followed by Peru and South Africa, which have also experienced significant growth.
Peru, although affected by the El Niño phenomenon, continues to be a key supplier of white seedless grapes, with a 47% market share. Chile and South Africa stand out in red and black seedless grapes, with Chile leading the way.
