Brazil
Monday 28 January 2008
This year Bayer CropScience will feature at Fruit Logistica in Berlin “Flavour Guarantee,” the latest project launched in Brazil. One of the main focuses of this work was international cooperation in the cultivation of table grapes. “Bayer CropScience is making available its wide-ranging expertise in plant health and harvest quality and quantity to enable growers to produce high-quality fruit and vegetables as a basis for a healthy nutrition”, explained Dr. Birgitt Walz-Tylla, Head of Food Chain Management at Bayer CropScience.
Bayer CropScience started the Flavour Guarantee project in 2007 in collaboration with the Non-Governmental Organization HortiBrasil. This organization is concerned with the modernization of fruit and vegetable production in Brazil. Some 500 small farmers in Brazil’s major growing regions are now producing certified melons, grapes and pineapples with the desired flavor characteristics for the local market.
Grapes are also the focus of a forum event to which Bayer CropScience is inviting interested trade visitors. At 2.00 p.m. on Thursday, February 7, 2008, the company will be presenting international projects from Spain, Morocco, Greece and Turkey in Hall 11.2. Active partnership with all the players in the food chain, from growers and processors to exporters and retailers, has enabled the high European standards to be optimized with respect to quality and food safety.
Nunhems, a seed company and subsidiary of Bayer CropScience, will also be at Fruit Logistica. Nunhems’ Intense™ tomato has been nominated for the Fruit Logistica Innovation Award 2008.
