In a tropical country where fruit should be plentiful and affordable, a simple mango or lemon is now out of reach for most.
A video by Cuban content creator has gone viral after revealing extreme produce prices at the 19 y B Agromarket in Havana. As of March, mangoes and soursops are selling for 500 Cuban pesos per pound (~$20.82 USD). Lemons cost 600 pesos (~$24.98 USD), cachucha peppers are priced at 1,000 pesos (~$41.63 USD), bell peppers at 150 pesos (~$6.24 USD), and tomatoes at 120 pesos (~$4.99 USD) per pound.
These prices reflect Cuba’s deepening economic crisis and rising inflation, turning everyday fruits into luxuries for the average citizen. In a tropical country where fruit should be plentiful and affordable, a simple mango or lemon is now out of reach for most.
