Growth in exports of Turkish tomatoes in 2019

The volume of tomato supplies, carried out by Turkey since the beginning of the year, increased by 13% compared with the same period last year. The export volume of Turkish tomatoes, delivered last year to 53 countries of the world, amounted to $ 292 million. The 2019th year started well. From January 1 to March 18, 2019, export of tomatoes grown mainly in greenhouses in the Aegean and Mediterranean regions grew by 13% and reached $ 98 million. In the same period last year, tomatoes were exported to the amount of $ 86.5 million. This is evidenced by data from the Aegean Exporters’ Associations.

Tomatoes occupy the first place in the assortment of fresh vegetables and fruits exported by Turkey. Turkish tomatoes are the most popular tomatoes in Russia. Compared to last year, exports of tomatoes to Russia increased by 351% (by $ 40 million). Romania was followed by Russia ($ 13.5 million) and Bulgaria took the third place ($ 7.3 million).

Turkish grower and exporter Lider Group has been exporting fresh tomatoes to European, Asian and Middle East countries since 1994.Having greenhouses with 70ha the Group grows bunch, cocktail and pink tomatoes.

Biological control is one of the important factors in growing . It has become possible to suppress the population of pets without damaging the products and using chemicals. “Bumblebeers help to reduce the harmful chemical usage within the greenhouses which is dangerous for health. They have an essential role in cultivating healthy and hormone free tomatoes.”- explains the agronomist of the Company.

The Company has also their own selection, packaging and cold store institutions in different parts of Turkey for this purpose.

Cultivation in company’s institutions is being done with the GLOBALGAP applications by experienced engineers so it enables to provide continuous and good qualify production.
