Salad producer Fresh Express has purchased US-based Verdelli Farms, with the aim of bolstering the under-represented Chiquita brand.
Fresh Express, the wholly owned subsidiary of Chiquita Brands International and the world's leading fresh salad producer, has revealed the completion of the the purchase of value-added salad, vegetable and fruit snack processor Verdelli Farms.
Fernando Aguirre, chairman and CEO of Chiquita Brands International, said: "The acquisition of Verdelli Farms, with its focus on meeting the needs of consumers for fresh, healthy and convenient foods, superior food safety and strong customer relationships, is a great fit within our sustainable growth strategy and an excellent complement to our Fresh Express brand."
The management team of Dan, Mike and Jen Verdelli will remain with the company, it has been confirmed in order to "offer leadership talent that is a good cultural fit".
"The acquisition accelerates our expansion into the Northeast, where there is strong demand from the largest concentration of value-added salad consumers," Mr Aguirre added.
