According to information, provided by the specialists of “Agrooglyad: vegetables and fruits”, overproduction of onion in Ukraine coupled with sharp devaluation of Ukrainian exchange currency made Ukrainian onion the cheapest onion in Europe.
At the moment, prices for onion are declared by Ukrainian farmers within a range of 0.04-0.07 euro/kg, at the same time in the Netherlands the prices vary within a range of 0.1-0.12 euro/kg, in Poland – 0.06-0.11 euro/kg. Prices for onion on the Russian wholesale markets reached the level of 0.12-0.18 euro/kg.
Despite this substantial difference in prices, supply of Ukrainian onion to the Russian market is complicated due to crisis of paying capacity of many companies-importers and supermarket chains.
Furthermore, many market participants involved in international trade are expecting course stabilization before renewing of active trade operations.
Supply of Ukrainian onion to the countries of EU faces technical difficulties connected with the necessity of EurepGAP/GlobalGAP certificates presence, quality, packing, logistics, etc.
