Almeria: commercial campaign's great start
Spain
Saturday 17 November 2007
Almería’s vegetables are getting standing out prices at this beginning of campaign. For November the overall prospect are also very positive. Three main circumstances have caused this favourable trend, the Spanish weekly Valenciafruits reports: first of all the fact that in all Europe the summer season has been very negative, with bad climate forcing an early production’s end. Being in other European Countries many campaigns are over already, Almería’s products abroad will suffer from almost no competition.
Secondly, sowing has been delayed in the Spanish region, so that now consumers are anxious to buy season vegetables, no matter of the high price they could have to pay. Lastly, a positive factor has been the cold weather in the last weeks in Almería’s area, favouring most of all products like zucchini and aubergines that are getting quite stable prices in these two first months of the campaign.
Also peppers are in good health, getting prices around 0.70 euro this week - which is very satisfactory compared to last year when it barely reached 0.50 euro.
