Finike oranges from Turkey recorded a significant decline compared to last year
Finike has a smaller harvest of oranges.
Harvesting oranges in Turkey began in mid-November. In one of the most important regions for Finike in the province of Antalya, 80% of citrus oranges are grown. The geographical designation "Orange Finike", approved by the National Institute of Turkish Patents.
According to the Chamber of Agriculture, the Finike the orange crop, which amounted last year to 250,000 tons would only be 150,000 tons this year.
The variety Washington is produced mainly in this region. Despite lower production, prices received by producers remain in line with previous years.
If we consider the export of oranges in Turkey in general, we realize that there is a decrease of 20% compared to November 2011, reflecting lower production. The main markets are the Russian Federation and Iraq. Turkey exported 350,000 tons of oranges during the 2011-2012 season.
