Newcot, which also offers a variety of flat nectarines and plums
For the past five years, plant breeder Christian Bois has been developing a hybridization program for flat peaches and nectarines.
Previously specializing in late-season and in-season apricot varieties, Newcot decided more than 10 years ago to diversify its breeding program. In response to the lack of flat-shaped varieties available for French production, Newcot now offers more than 15 flat nectarine varieties, with harvests running from early June through September. Newcot’s range of bicolor apricots now includes varieties with Latin names such as Nemausus, Cassus, Maximus, and Julius. “We have also launched a hybridization program for American-Japanese plums and now have some excellent early-ripening varieties with red flesh available starting in early June,” reveals Christian Bois.
