Bad Season
Chile
Tuesday 08 April 2008
US imports of Chilean fresh fruit significantly dropped for the 2007-2008 season, due to poor weather conditions and an unfavourable exchange rate.
For instance, according to Dole Chile, total shipments to the United States were cut from 13%.
Grapes, avocados, apples and peaches are the main products concerned by the fall.
Recently, Ronald Brown, the President of ASOEX, the Chilean exporters association, declared to the Chilean newspaper Diario Financiero that crop loss for this period was up to US$ 300 million in FOB value.
