Kiwifruit : disease spread and measures seems to be shy

PSA disease appears to spread rapidly, while the measures seems shy.

16 orchards were quarantined, 13 orchards have yielded positive results for bacterial infection, 93 others have symptoms of the PSA. All the orchards are in the contaminated region of the Bay of Plenty in the North Island.

 
Removal of infected plant material and spraying the trees did not contain the disease. The Ministry of Agriculture requires producers to stop using artificial pollination that could be a means of spreading the disease.
