Farmers from Castile and León report damage caused by frosts

The frosts that fell last week in Castile and León (Spain) damaged more than 3,500 hectares of crops in the 9 provinces, according to data from the Spanish Association of Combined Agricultural Insurance Companies (Agroseguro).
The most affected territories belong to the provinces of Valladolid (about 800 hectares), León, Ávila and Zamora (600 hectares).
In Valladolid, Ávila and Zamora, most of the damage occurred in oilseeds, such as rapeseed, and beet. In Valladolid, some part of almond trees also suffered.
In León, crops of colza and winter cereal, almonds, pears and apples from Bierzo were damaged, but confirmation regarding the latter two will come in the next few days.
However, according to Agroseguro, crops such as wine grapes and cereals have not been totally damaged.
According to the data presented by the insured producers, so far damage has been recorded in more than 37,000 hectares throughout Spain. Cherry, citrus, rapeseed, beet, persimmon, vineyard, various winter vegetables, pome, stone fruit from the Ebro Valley, and almond trees mainly from Castilla-La Mancha, suffered.
