Italian manufacturer offers unique 100% R-PET packaging solutions for fruit and veg industry

Infia is a business unit of Klockner Pentaplast Group and is one of the world-leading producers of packaging for fruits and vegetables, with over 74 years of experience. At Macfrut, Fructidor had an opportunity to talk with Alessandro Mariani, Export Manager at Infia.

What distinguishes Infia from the other packaging manufacturers, is that it uses only recycled plastic, most of it originating from old bottles, trays, pallets, and also plastic found on the beaches and in the seas.

The company guarantees its packaging solutions come from the polyethylene (PET) converted to 100% recycled (R-PET). This technology provides a kind of package that has the same resistance and transparency as the one obtained from virgin raw material, and that also guarantees sustainability at every level, thus significantly reducing the environmental impact.

“We know that at the moment PET is the most environmentally friendly material because it is one of few materials that can be recycled almost forever. This is the way to reduce the impact on the environment to the lowest level. All the rest is using too much energy and resources. We have the EPD certification, so we know the impact of our material”, says Alessandro Mariani, Export Manager at Infia.

“Tray2Tray” system is another trend that Infia is currently promoting. The point is to collect and recycle used trays to produce new ones, thus making their economy very circular with zero impact on the environment.

According to Mariani, the company produces over 3 billion trays per year, the vast majority of which is exported to 75-80 countries worldwide. 

“Every tray that we can find in the market - we use it”, comments Mariani.
