Peruvian garlic exports totaled $25.6 million in 2020.

In 2020, the demand for garlic increased and Peruvian exports ended the year with satisfactory results, despite a decrease in volume (-1 %) the value increased by +45 % compared to 2019.
The total export volume of garlic reached 11.937.890 kilos for a FOB value of $25.526.803.
The main recipient of this Peruvian product, with a 67 % share, was Mexico, which achieved placements for a FOB value of $17.208.867. Followed by Ecuador, which reached $4.427.687, and a 17 % participation, the United States $1.982.468 (8 %), Australia $751.211 (3%), Brazil $586.673 (2 %), Colombia $191.465 (1 %) and others $378.432(1 %).
In addition to the increase in exports, Peru achieved better prices for its product. On average, Peruvian garlic was exported at $2.14 per kilo, 47 % more than the previous year.
According to the TradeMap database, global garlic production reached 28.554.207 tons in 2018. That year, China was the 1st producer with over 22.3 million tons, followed by India with 1.72 million tons and Bangladesh with 461.970 tons. Peru's production was 104.574 tons.
The world trade in garlic, mainly fresh, represents between 8 % and 10 % of world production.
