US asparagus imports continue to rise

According to the USDA, imports of fresh asparagus to the USA increased by 18 percent in 2003 to around 1 million kilos.
Peru accounted for 55 percent of fresh asparagus imports in 2003, and this is expected to rise to 60 percent in 2004.
Imports account for 66 percent of total consumption of fresh asparagus in The USA.
