Aocado can play a key role in the future of Nigeria

The most sought-after variety in the world market, the Hass variety from Mexico and Kenya has recently been introduced to Nigeria where the fruit can thrive and become a flagship product of national agriculture.

 

According to ASN (Avocado Society of Nigeria) Hass avocado is easy to grow and has the potential to generate more than 35,000 jobs by 2027. According to the executive director, Adeniyi Sola-Bunmi, Hass avocado has the potential to generate for the national economy more than 12 billion NGN (26.6 million USD) and thus play a key role in the future of Nigeria.

 

But the government must support the development of Hass avocado production, which is already benefiting from numerous initiatives (soil management, irrigation, pest control) carried out by ASN in several regions of the country.
