Spanish Working Group for Fruits and Vegetables reports on progress regarding achieving access to new global markets

In concern of Latin American countries, they are working on opening markets of Peru, Mexico, Colombia, Argentina and Chile. As reported at the meeting, the opening of the Argentine market for Spanish apples, cherries and prunus plants is progressing.

On May 26, the Spanish Working Group for Fruits and Vegetables held the 18th meeting in order to determine new export destinations and products.

 

The Working Group consists of the Ministry of Industry, Tourism and Trade, the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food, and the representatives of the sectoral associations, who are responsible for the administrations involved in the opening of new destinations for the export of fruits and vegetables.

 

As informed by Fepex, at the moment, the group is focused on opening the Canadian market for Spanish cherries, blueberries, and tomatoes. Worth to mention that in January 2021 they achieved access to Canadian market for strawberries.

 

With the United States, negotiations are underway regarding opening the market for cherry, nectarine, plum, pear, apple, and for the strawberry plant.

 

In concern of Latin American countries, they are working on opening markets of Peru, Mexico, Colombia, Argentina and Chile. As reported at the meeting, the opening of the Argentine market for Spanish apples, cherries and prunus plants is progressing. 

 

Negotiations with Chile are being held by European Commission. Apple exports are projected to start in the near future.

 

It is also projected to start exporting Spanish pears and grapes to Thailand. Besides, they are trying to authorize air deliveries for cherry to this destination.

 

The list of potential destinations is much more extensive, covering more than 18 countries in the group of priority destinations and more than eleven countries in the group of non-priority destinations. For each country, one or more products can be negotiated at once.
