The new airport near Beijing promises to be the largest in the world and could supplant that of Atlanta as busiest.
China will begin construction of the largest freight airport in the world in southern Beijing.
The two airports in the Chinese capital have reached their maximum capacities so China will start building a new airport located in Daxing, 46 kms south of Beijing.
Located in an area of ??2.680 hectares, the new airport will handle over 130 million passengers and
5.5 million tonnes of cargo annually. With this capability, it may supplant the Atlanta airport in the United States as the busiest airport in the world.
The cost is estimated at 30.2 billion yuan (4.8 billion USD). Its opening is planned for 2017.
