Longans became the 4th Vietnamese fruit to be exported to Australia after lychee, mango and dragon fruit. Australian consumers are increasingly enjoying longans.
Recently at an event to discover Vietnamese products, the 500 kg of longans presented were sold in less than one hour. A supermarket of Asian products in western Australia said it sold about 1 to 1.5 tons of fresh Vietnamese fruits each week.
Thanks to the various free trade agreements, the majority of Vietnamese goods exported to Australia are not subject to customs duties. But Vietnamese fruit and vegetable export earnings in Australia remain modest, at about $ 31 million, up by 15% from the previous year.
Vietnam could increase its presence on the Australian market but according to professionals, the obstacles are numerous. Starting with strict quarantine regulations, few Vietnamese exporters are able to comply with Australian standards.
