A lower harvest in 2015 of 12.4% compared to 2014
FJ
The NEPG (North-Western European Potato Growers group), plans to produce 2,015 less than the 2014 production.
NEPG, based on total areas established and the first data from observations in the field, believe that in 2015 the total production of the 5 member countries should be less than 25 million tonnes. Therefore a production of 12.4% lower than last year.
The total area of potatoes consumption is down to 3.6%. Members of NEPG believe that 2015 yields could be around the average of the last 5 years or a little lower, or about 47.4 tonnes / hectare.
These figures are only a first estimation because it is too early in the season to make reliable forecasts. Total production will depend on rainfall during the summer, which for the moment is too dry.
