The cargo of 5.576 tons of lemons, mandarins, grapefruits, as well as pears and apples departed to Russia from Argentina.
The load was 6.325 pallets of fresh fruits: 2.818 pallets of lemons, 2.055 of mandarins, 44 of grapefruit, 825 of pears and 583 of apples.
Specialists from Senasa's San Pedro and Zarate offices carried out the inspection and phytosanitary certification of the shipment.
According to Guillermo Ruffo, the coordinator of Plant Protection of the Buenos Aires North Regional Center of Senasa, the departure of this significant ship shows the recognition of Argentine fresh produce by international markets.
At the end of April, the European Union confirmed the reopening of its market in May, for the entry of Argentine citrus, after the interruption arranged by the block in August 2020, after detecting cases of the disease in a shipment of lemons "black spot" (Phyllosticta Citricarpa).
The reopening was achieved thanks to a joint work of producers, Senasa and the ministries of Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries, and of Foreign Relations.
According to Senasa, 4 out of 10 fruits exported by Argentina are citrus fruits and the EU is one of the main destinations, to which some 150,000 tons are sent annually.
