Exports to India will drop sharply

India had imported 8 million boxes (18 kg) of US apples in 2018.
Washington's apple industry is expecting a sharp slowdown in volumes exported to India as a result of the increased customs duties that have just come into effect.
Since June 16, India has imposed surcharges on more than twenty American products including apples. Now these apples' customs duties have reached 70%.
By 2018 India had imported 8 million 40-pound (18 kg) boxes from the 2017 Washington State Apples Harvest. This year, India had already imported 2.6 million 40-pound (18 kg) boxes from the 2018 crop.
These Indian taxes will cause a demand for American apples to fall in sharp decline. Northwest Horticultural Council is concerned that the price will fall for all producers if the sector fails to find other export markets.
