Spain’s stone fruit exports surge as demand grows worldwide
VU
The country's total stone fruit production for 2024 reached 1.8 million tons.
By July 2024, Spain exported 557,371 tons of stone fruit, valued at 974 million euros, marking a significant share — about 30% — of the country’s total production of 1.8 million tons. As the season progresses and more stone fruits are sold, this export percentage is anticipated to rise, reflecting the strong export orientation within this sector.
Spain’s stone fruit exports for January through July 2024 reached 557,371 tons, bringing in 974 million euros. This figure is expected to grow further with the substantial export volumes seen in August and September, according to data from the Customs and Excise Department of the Tax Agency.
By July, export numbers for nearly all stone fruits had increased, except for plums. The export data for 2024, up to that point, was as follows:
- Nectarines: 194,253 tons (+17%), earning 305.5 million euros (+9%)
- Donut peaches: 124,680 tons (+21%), with sales reaching 200 million euros (+21%)
- Peaches: 82,478 tons (+5%), generating 127.5 million euros (+5%)
- Apricots: 83,593 tons (+30%), contributing 153 million euros (+22%)
- Cherries: 37,311 tons (+18%), worth 132 million euros (+1%)
- Plums: 33,066 tons (-8%), with a value of 57 million euros (-3%)
The total stone fruit production for 2024 reached 1.8 million tons, as stated by the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries, and Food in late September.
