Beginning of lychees harvest and exports set to decline

The litchi campaign officially begun on November 26th.
The Trade Department announced that exports of lychees will be in decrease this year compared to the volume exported last year.
Madagascar plans to export 15,750 tons this year, announced the Ministry of Commerce.
This limited amount was decided by the Ministry and sector operators. A monitoring network quality is in place to prevent the export of fruit still green, and not to ruin the reputation of the Malagasy litchi on international markets.
The campaign officially begun on November 26th, and lychees Malagasy arrive in time for Christmas and New Year in Europe.
Last year, Madagascar exported nearly 19,000 tons against 25,000 tons of litchi in 2008.
