According to the Export Department of the Ministry of Agriculture, in the first 7 months (March 21-October 22) of the current Iranian year, the country exported 246,000 tons of onions worth USD 34 million. .
That is, compared to the same period of the previous Iranian year, an increase of +51.85% in volume and +25.93% in value.
The Department of Exports believes that these increases can be explained by the increase in demand from Pakistan which was affected by devastating floods.
To regulate the domestic market and limit price increases, the Ministry of Agriculture has set new taxes that apply to tomato and onion exports: IRR 40,000 (USD 0.95) customs duty for the export of 1 kg of tomatoes and IRR 20,000 (0.48 USD) for the export of 1 kg of onions. These taxes are in effect until January 5, 2023.
