This 1st export comes after the agreement signed last year concerning phytosanitary requirements, then the certification, by the General Administration of Chinese Customs, of 37 mango orchards and 5 packing factories for export, obtained last month.
Cambodia exported a first batch of fresh mangoes directly to China, totaling 80 tonnes loaded into 6 containers. This 1st batch arrived at the port of Qinzhou, in the autonomous region of Guangxi Zhuang, in the south of China. The mangoes will be sold to markets in Beijing, Henan, Liaoning, Zhejiang, Shandong and other parts of China.
According to the Ministry of Agriculture, Cambodia has nearly 132,000 hectares of mango trees, producing around 1.38 million tonnes of fresh mangoes per year.
"Fresh mango is the second Cambodian fresh fruit, after banana, to gain official access to the Chinese market," said Minister of Agriculture, Mr. Sakhon. According to him, since the start of banana exports to China in May 2019, the Cambodian banana industry has experienced considerable development and the mango industry could achieve the same performance.
