European vegetables must be certified safe to enter Russia
MD
The statement by the Russian President, Dmitry Medvedev, to stop the Russian embargo on European vegetables followed the findings of German studies that implicated bean sprouts as the source of the epidemic.
Since that statement, made June 10, agreements between Russia and the EU have been confirmed but nothing has changed in practice.
The European Commission sent a delegation to Moscow to meet with health officials and an agreement was signed Wednesday, June 22 authorizing the "immediate renewal" of imports of European vegetables to Russia.
Under the agreement, the export of raw vegetables by countries from the European Union to Russia for a limited period must "certify the origin of their products and the absence of E. coli 104."
