Russian phytosanitary controls sends back Turkish fruits

While pomegranate season is in full swing, the Russian phytosanitary controls ( Rosselhoznadzor ) detected the presence of Mediterranean fruit flies ( Ceratitis capitata Wied ). The laboratory controlled 22 tonnes of Turkish origin pomegranates arrived at the port of Novorossiysk.
According to the Deputy Chairman Aleksey Alekseyenko , fruits were therefore not allowed to enter Russian territory and were returned to the sender in Turkey. He further states that a shipment of 18.5 tons of pomegranates at the port of Tuapse grenades had been returned for the same reason on 17 October.
Last week, the same service had declined 24 tons of grapes imported from Turkey , finding this time a thrips in fruits ( Western Californian Flower Thrips ).
