IFAPA connects research and growers at berry innovation day.
Earlier this month, more than 100 industry professionals attended a technical field day in Moguer, Huelva (Spain), to review ongoing berry R&D projects led by IFAPA, as part of efforts to accelerate innovation transfer into commercial production, informs the Association of Strawberry Producers and Exporters of Huelva, Freshuelva.
Held at the El Cebollar experimental centre, the event brought together growers, technicians, companies and training institutions linked to Andalusia’s red-fruit sector. Researchers presented trial work currently underway for the campaign, focusing on practical improvements for on-farm performance.
Key research lines include optimisation of fertigation programmes, development of soilless strawberry production systems, and varietal assessments under different growing conditions. Trials are also exploring soil disinfestation methods and biological pest-control strategies aimed at reducing chemical dependency while maintaining productivity and fruit quality.
The open day forms part of IFAPA’s wider knowledge-transfer agenda, designed to connect experimental research with the operational needs of Spain’s main berry-producing hub, where sustainability, efficiency and competitiveness remain central to sector growth.sp
