Lettuce shortage affects Germany
Germany

After summer holidays, the requests of lettuce has increased. However, the campaign is characterized by ups and downs as some local producers cannot reach normal supply levels.
Despite the good start at the beginning of the year, the following humid and warm weather made different varieties of lettuce planted in different periods to ripen simultaneously. The supply therefore exceeded the demand remarkably and prices dropped.
Currently the situation has reversed: lettuce demand is on the rise but farmers are not able yet to satisfy it.
Furthermore, even other countries such as Sweden and the UK are interested in importing this product. The result is a relevant price rise which is affecting the German consumers.
