Restart of exports to Europe
FJ
The export of several fruits and vegetables will restart to Europe.
Not conform with to European phytosanitary standards, the Thai basil ("hung que" in Vietnamese), pepper, celery, bitter gourd ("Muop dang") and long coriander ("ngo gay") ceased to be exported. This prohibition entailed the suspicion of other products and interfered with Vietnamese exports.
This prohibition will be raised from 30 next June informed the Plant Quarantine Agency and the Ministry of Agriculture. In 2012, Vietnam exported for a value of more than 10 million $, 11.7 times more than in 1997 and 5.5 times more than in 2003.
This year the value of exports could reach 1billion $. This progression is due to the constant improvement of the quality, numerous products (mango, rambutan, pomelo, longan ...) now have access to demanding markets (Japan, Britain, Canada, United States). Since May 2012, the Chile imports Vietnamese dragon fruits, which highlight new opportunities in Latin America.
