Climate change with the increase in temperatures in several regions and the lack of rain which impacts the volumes of water available in the dams are worrying problems according to Moroccan professionals who fear a drop in agricultural production.
Morocco is affected this year by an unprecedented period of drought and the volumes of water available for irrigation are particularly worrying. During a meeting at the Ministry of Agriculture, Lahoucine Adardour, President of FIFEL (Moroccan Interprofessional Federation for the Production and Export of Fruits and Vegetables) stressed that it is likely that over the next few months there will be a drop significant in the production of citrus fruits and tomatoes.
This meeting also made it possible to discuss the measures to be put in place concerning the authorizations for the extraction of water from groundwater as well as other solutions such as the desalination of sea water for irrigation which would allow the continuity of agricultural production.
