The increase in exports brings South Africa's first to the limit of its capabilities.
The port of Durban, the biggest in South Africa and third largest in the southern hemisphere for container traffic, is at the limit of its capacity.
The situation has led many exporting companies opting for shipments from neighbouring Mozambique. For producers in the region’s north-east, the port of Maputo in Mozambique is even closer than that of Durban.
Exports from South Africa continue to grow, with shipments to Russia becoming increasingly important. Europe buys about 25% of the country's citrus exports.
