Switzerland fears pressure on prices because of European surpluses
FJ
Switzerland which is not affected by the Russian embargo fears however the decrease of prices generated by the excess in the EU.
Estimated yields are expected to exceed one-third the annual domestic consumption which reaches about 100,000 tons. Swisscofel, the Swiss Trade Association of fruits-vegetables-potatoes, alerts and states that promotions will be insufficient to sell such quantities.
This abundant domestic production will compete with the imported European surplus and offered at low prices. Consumers need to be vigilant and try to focus on Swiss products. Only new export opportunities could relieve the market.
Some exports to Russia have already taken place. But many factors, such as high price of Swiss goods or administrative formalities, will be to consider and weigh on the evolution of these exports.
