India lost its position as the No. 2 onion exporters
FJ
India is no longer the No. 2 worldwide for onion exports.
According to NHRDF , the research institute of horticulture, India was until recently the No. 2 worldwide for onion exports , after China. But for 5 years, erratic weather and changing policies on exports have led to a decline in exports.
Another reason to drop in exports would be the loss of traditional markets.
India exported to countries (Thailand, Indonesia , Sri Lanka) who have developed their national production and therefore decreased their demand.
India is now the 4th global exporters. Behind China , the world leader , other countries exceeded the volumes of Indian exports as the Netherlands , Mexico , Spain and Pakistan.
