Originally from Queensland, Rubygems strawberries were brought to Turkey and are preparing to make a name in European markets.
Developed by Horticulture Australia Ltd, Strawberries Australia Inc., DEEDS (Development Agency and innovation) Rubygems strawberries arrived in the Turkish market in 2006.
Their flavour and
bright red colour have conquered consumers and are now in demand. Producers also recognize their resistance to disease.
Production has increased dramatically with about 10 million trays now produced in Turkey. Exports began to Central Europe and Russia and now the European markets are the next target.
